IKAT

Ikat in many traditions is not merely a textile but a sacred object. It is believed to ward off evil, neutralise poison and protect against dark magic; with the help of the motifs as talismans.

From the Patola weavers of Gujarat to the Abr artisans of the Silk Road, these shifting, blurred motifs were worn to protect the wearer’s agency. At ALA, we respect this lineage of protection. It is in fact nice to believe that our dresses made out of ikat fabric is almost like a modern day armour for the modern day woman.
